We spilt up our hike over 5 days so we’d have lots of time to enjoy the scenery and to go on day hikes from our base at Berg Lake Campground. In September 2018, I finally made the drive to the Rockies to hike the Berg Lake Trail. The star of the show is the Berg Glacier, tumbling down the slope of Mount Robson into the lake. It begins down in a temperate rain forest before climbing high up into the alpine to a brilliant blue glacier-fed lake. We met Americans, Austrians, Mexicans… oh and a bunch of Canadians from all over the country. People travel from all over the world to do this trip. The Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park is one of Canada’s premiere multi-day hiking trips. BC Parks has announced that the trail will be open as far as Kinney Lake in summer 2023, but the full trail will not re-open until 2025. It suffered extensive damage due to flooding in late June and early July 2021. Heads up: The Berg Lake Trail is currently closed.
